The self-watering base, from the original Hydroponicum range of hydroponic growing kits, can be used to germinate seeds or to grow small hydroponic plants (good for herbs and lettuces).

The design provides a good surface area and at The Achiltibuie Garden we sow herb and lettuce seeds in them without the need to prick out and pot on.  The plants can them be harvested from the pot they were sown in.
